Now it’s summer, you’ve come to the realisation that you want to make something of it, as not only are you missing your uni friends, but you’re realising home life can be a bit boring as well..
So, as a student, you have plenty of time off and you’re not going to want to waste it, it’s a chance to really do something! However, it’s understandable that not all students have a big budget, so we’re going to look at something for everyone.
Holiday
This is definitely something for those students who have managed to save a bit of coin during term or perhaps you’ve been grafting all year alongside your studies and have managed to get enough together to get yourself somewhere abroad!
When it comes to holidays, there are a plethora of options; city breaks, party destinations, all-inclusive, countryside getaways, and plenty more!
Party Destinations
If you’re looking to go mad in the summer then heading to a party destination could be the option for you! It gives you a chance to lose your inhibition for a few days, and let go of your worries! These holidays are usually fuelled by sun, cheap booze, 4 hours sleep per night, and pure vibes!

Do be careful not to take it too far, drink responsibly and look after yourselves, nothing would ruin a great holiday like a hefty hospital bill or losing your personal possessions!
City Breaks
These can be super cheap, or seriously luxurious, it’ll really depend on your budget. There are almost too many destinations to choose from, you may want to find one that is more cultured, or maybe one a bit cheaper just to have exploration and some fun. You’ll always have the option to choose from hostels, hotels, and even Airbnbs.

There are plenty of sights to see, and maybe even great nightlife! So whether you’re after some culture, fun, or something chilled, a city break is definitely worth considering!
All-inclusive
This is a great way to get some sun, and to completely relax.. Going all inclusive is a great way to just forget about everything and lay poolside. The great thing about all inclusive is you don’t have to worry about food and drink, which gives you much more flexibility when it comes to budgets! So, depending on where you’ve chosen to go, you may be able to take a day and go exploring into the local town to either see some sights, culture, or maybe even dabble in the nightlife!

‘Uni Tours’
This is one that should definitely be considered as it’s a chance to see the making of your friends. The idea would be to select a few days throughout the summer where you all take the time to visit where everyone is from or their to go and visit where they study.
It’s a great way to get an insight into where your friends come from and meet their friends (maybe even get some embarrassing stories about them!) It’s also just a great way to get away from home and have a bit of an exploration, even if it is just inside the UK!
Festivals
Festivals are definitely some of the most fun you can have whilst away from uni! If you can get over the camping and the unhygienic facilities then you’re definitely onto a winner! A UK music festival is a right of passage for everyone growing up as you get to experience going away, but at the comfort of your doorstep.
With a combination of great friends, good weather, and the right line-up, a festival has the potential to be one of the best weekends of your young life! It’s like going away to a party destination but with the added value of your music preference!

Home
Going back home to live with your parents for the summer is a blessing and a curse. You have all the home comforts that you’re so accustomed to, but you do also have to deal with your parents..
Jokes aside, going home for the summer is a great way to recuperate, get back on top of things, and just relax. Depending on how you go about things its potential to have cooking and cleaning done for you.. like a butler, but they nag you.
For many students uni can be one big party, or an intense study session, and possibly a heavy combination of the two. To survive such a year you’re going to be living off coffees, budget groceries, and adrenaline. So going home will hopefully help you enjoy day to day life a bit more again, and hopefully recharge the batteries ready to do it all again in September!
Work
There are definitely a few reasons to consider working whilst off from uni, maybe you just want some more money to go back with, you may need extra to support you summer shenanigans, parents may “encourage” you to, and you may just want to because you enjoy it and don’t want to get bored.
It doesn’t matter your reason for working, the main thing is you’re taking initiative and responsibility, although you may not find yourself in a professional job, it’s definitely worth having on the CV to show you’ve done more than just being a ‘student’.. Not to mention you get to sit on your high horse and tell your friends off for not working!
Work experience?
Like the aforementioned work, not particularly the most fun thing you’ll be doing that summer, and in this case you might not even be earning, but this will really bulk up the CV and make you much more attractive in the eyes of your future employer.
Coming out of uni and into the professional world can be a struggle, not just getting a job, but also learning and getting used to the professional world, so it’s not only the work you’ll be experienced in, but also the life that comes with it!
An extra benefit that can come with work experience is finding something you don’t like. Although this seems negative, it’s good to eliminate something you don’t want to be doing, especially if you know it’s only temporary and can see the finish line.
Finally, Graduation
For some, this may be a relief and others may be super emotional about this (happy and sad). For those who do get fed up with uni this will be nice to get that work out the way, no more exams and coursework! All the work that’s been leading up to this has finally paid off and you’ve got something to show for it.
For those whose emotions are running high, this is amazing and sad! Your hard work has paid off, but its potential the last time you’ll be a student, all those good times are now turning to memories as you leave the luxurious student life to become a “real adult”.
However your summer turns out make sure that you stick to the three golden rules!
- Enjoy – use the time off to your advantage, it’s not long until you start working full time so take this time to make the most of your free time and have fun!
- Relax – Similar to enjoying, this is going to be one of the last times in your life where you can have next to zero responsibility in your life, sit back, kick your feet up and chill!
- Veygo – you get two options here! Option 1, make some plans with friends, drive places and explore, use Veygo’s temporary car insurance to share the load driving, or maybe even use your parents car! Option 2, if you haven’t already passed your driving test, all the free time you have would be well used if you finally got behind the wheel, Veygo offers a great learner driver policy to get those extra hours in
