What is Learner + New driver insurance?

Learner + New Driver is designed to make driving easier for you as you start your driving journey. It means you get a great deal on your first car insurance policy, from the day you start learning, to the day you pass and your first year as a new driver.

When you’re learning
It’s recommended that all learner drivers do extra practise outside of their lessons. Learner + New Driver means you can practise with someone else for as little or as long as you need. It’s an alternative to you being added as a named driver on their insurance and removes any risk to their no claims bonus.

Or, if you’re lucky enough to already have a car that you own, we can insure you to practise in that.

When you’ve passed
You’re already covered and ready to go, from the moment you pass your test. Same as when you’re learning – you’ll have rolling monthly cover you can cancel anytime, without fee. But the big difference is that you can earn rewards for safe driving as a new driver. Just download the Veygo app and it will monitor things like your speed, hard braking and any interactions with your phone while driving. We’ll review your price every three months and the safer you drive, the less you pay. It’s that simple.

Why choose Learner + New Driver cover?

No surprises

Know how much your insurance will cost when you pass your test.

No gaps

You’re covered from the second you pass, so you can drive home from your test.

Save

As a thanks for learning with Veygo, your first month as a new driver will cost the same as when you were learning.

Keep saving

Download the Veygo app, monitor your driving and you could save up to 30% in the first year after passing your test.

Important information about your cover

You can get Learner + New Driver insurance on your car or someone else’s. If you’re not the legal car owner then Learner + New Driver cover sits alongside the owner’s insurance and cannot be the main policy. It’s possible to get cover for a lease car, but not a hire or rental vehicle.

Answers to some questions you might have

Can I cancel my Learner + New Driver subscription before or after passing?

Yes, you can cancel your Learner + New Driver subscription at any time via your Veygo account. Here’s how to cancel (it’s really easy!):

On the web:

  • Click into your account from the top right hand of the screen
  • Go to Purchases
  • Select “View” on the policy that needs cancelling
  • Click “Cancel policy” inside the Actions box
  • Click “Cancel policy” in the pop-up

How do refunds work?

If your policy hasn’t started yet, you’ll receive a full refund.

If your policy has already started, we’ll recalculate the price based on a shorter policy and refund the difference. If any refund is due, this will be returned to the original payment method automatically within 3 to 10 days.

Please see your Insurance Guide for our Cancellations policy.

Is it possible I won’t be covered after I pass?

Your Learner + New Driver policy isn’t guaranteed cover for after you pass, as circumstances can change on our side or yours. In the unlikely event we are not able to offer you cover after you pass, we will give you 7 days’ notice that we cannot cover you. If we aren’t able to cover you after you pass, you can check out our other flexible insurance options – New Driver Insurance or Pay As You Go Insurance.

How do I tell you that I passed?
You don’t need to. We’ll automatically update your policy. However, if you’d like to notify us, you can do so from your account page.
Will my price change after passing my test?

Your price will change after you pass, but not right away. With Learner + New Driver, your first month after passing remains the same as your learner price. After that, your price will adjust based on your new driver quote, which we will share with you once you pass.

Your new driver price will be directly linked to your driving score in the Veygo by Admiral app, which means it will change based on your driving behaviour. If your driving score is good because you’ve been driving safely and responsibly, your subscription price may decrease. However, if there are changes in your driving behaviour that means your driving score is lower, then your subscription price may increase.

We know how important every pound is at the moment. Adjustments to your subscription price will come into effect every three months and will always be communicated to you in advance.

Why can’t I get Learner + New Driver?

Not all drivers or cars qualify for this policy. If you don’t, please check out our other flexible cover options – Learner Driver Insurance and New Driver Insurance – to see what works best for you.

Are there any driving restrictions after I pass my test?
You can drive anywhere in the UK at any time. However, Veygo New Driver insurance doesn’t cover driving outside of the UK. If you plan to drive internationally, you’ll need a different insurance option.
How is your driving score calculated?

Your driving score is based on the data from the Veygo by Admiral app, which monitors things like mobile usage, speed, cornering, acceleration, and braking while you drive.

How will my data be used?

To see how we will use your data, please read Admiral group’s privacy policy.

How long do I need to stay with you after passing?
You’re never locked in. You can cancel your subscription at any time, before or after passing your test.
